J.C. Hudsears: Andy Krieger holiday art show opens at Public Pool

Public Pool

Nov. 17, 7-10 p.m.

Artist-builder Andy Krieger is doing what we always wanted to do: open up our own fantasy department store — a combo-retro downtown Hudson’s-Highland park Sears — where we can play Santa Claus while we’re at it.

Krieger has been assembling the show himself for weeks. It looks great when we snuck a look through the papered up picture window. He works primarily with wood and paint, creating detailed, hand-carved objects, which for this show includes briefcases, games, action figures and more. Beyond a nostalgic nod at the old stores that Andy grew up with, the show explores issues of art, marketing, and culture to retail to pop-ups to history, and everything in between.

Opening night at Public Pool is Saturday, Nov. 17, 7-10 p.m. with strolling performances by Detroit’s own Barrettes.

Public Pool is at 3309 Caniff, Hamtramck.
