DMC expands, builds pediatric center downtown

DMC is expanding for the first time in 30 years. They’ll be tearing
down the nursing home on their downtown campus to make way for a
5-story pediatric center. Ground is expected to be broken next March
with a 2010 completion target.

DMC and Children’s Hospital of Michigan executives, including CEO Mike
Duggan, said Thursday a new, 5-story, 34-million dollar outpatient
pediatric center will be constructed right across the street from
Children’s Hospital.

Hospital president, Herman Grey says the new center will help children and families.

“We’re doing something good for children and families and that’s how
you build strong communities, that’s how you build a strong city,
that’s how you build a strong state and country,” Grey said.
