A nineteen year community tradition, ‘Shop your Block” will bring crowds along West Vernor Highway in Southwest Detroit. On August 5th, from 12 noon to 6 p.m., and on August 6th, from 10 a.m. – 5 p.m., “people can experience all the best that Southwest Detroit has to offer” said Nancy Sizer of the Southwest Detroit Business Association (SDBA).

Southwest Detroit, with the SDBA was recently selected as an awardee for Gov. Granholm’s Cool Cities initiative for its ethnic, business, and cultural connections.

‘This annual event is a great way to not only shop and enjoy the festivities planned, but also to look around and see all the exciting new developments that are taking place in Southwest Detroit”, Sizer said.  “Historic buildings, clean and inviting shopping districts, renovated apartment buildings, unique stores, great sounds and sights and tastes – Southwest Detroit has it all”

Shop Your Block celebrates the diversity and vitality of Southwest Detroit’s commercial district.  The event features shopping, food, live music & dance performances, and children’s activities. Other attractions include Mariachi music, Latin jazz, Native American and Mexican folk dancing, and tile painting.  More at: http://www.southwestdetroit.com/
