Detroit Seeks an Image Boost With Facelift Before All-Star Game

Visitors and national sponsors of the All-Star game take notice of the positive changes happening in Detroit

Wearing a new dark-blue Detroit Tigers baseball cap with an orange capital “D” stitched in the center, Tim Marston, a visitor from Indianapolis, says the stereotypes he has heard about Detroit are “just wrong.”

“Everyone told me Detroit stinks, the downtown is dirty and I would get robbed if I went up there,” says Marston, 32, as he stands outside Comerica Park, pulling peanuts from a brown paper bag. “I admit I believed some of that myself. But look around. Everyone is having fun, the streets are clean, nobody bothers you, and there is a ton of things to do.”
