Amanda Brewington always wanted her own performance space and the young professional is doing that now that she has opened her own coffee shop in Detroit's Grandmont Rosedale neighborhood called
Always Brewing Detroit.
The downtown Detroit resident has worked in music licensing and radio prior to opening Always Brewing Detroit. Now the cafe on 19180 Grand River Ave is the performance space in the neighborhood after Brewington worked with
TechTown's Thrive program to get her business off the ground.
"I wanted to open in a community," Brewington says. "I wanted to open in a neighborhood, not downtown or Midtown. This community made a lot of sense because it didn't have a coffee shop and they really wanted one."
Always Brewing Detroit serves organic, fair-trade coffee freshly roasted at
Chazzano Coffee in Ferndale. Brewington works there with a crew of four people, including her boyfriend. She served tables full-time at
Joe Muer Seafood to save enough money to open the business.
