World-renowed hotel developer Gabriel Ruiz is overseeing a series of renovations at the iconic Pontchartrain Hotel, now a Crowne Plaza property. The $5 million initial round of renovation work includes a whole new facade and color scheme for the 25-story 1965 building, as well as an update to the 317 guest rooms, an upgraded HVAC system, a new restaurant and lounge with completely redesigned banquet facilities, and a streetside patio along Jefferson. Initial renovation plans are complete and the hotel has reopened to the public, along with Jefferson House and Urban Cellars, the fine dining restaurant and cocktail lounge located on the lobby level. Future plans include reopening the Top of the Pontch restaurant and special event facility and building the second hotel tower that was part of the original 1965 plan.
