Motown Winter Blast to expand over 14 blocks and attract 250,000

The Motown Winter Blast, the winter festival planned as part of Super Bowl XL, will occupy more than 14 blocks in the center of downtown Detroit.

Excerpts from the article:

The event is to include twice as many restaurants, a snow slide that is twice as big as last year’s festival and 10 times the number of ice sculptures as last year. Organizers expect 250,000 people to attend the Feb. 2-5 event.

The layout of the festival will be three times as large as last year.

Dog-sledding, snow-shoeing, bands, figure-skating performances, music and warming areas are part of the plans. Other options: snowmobiling exhibitions, a “Detroit Marketplace” shopping area and a children’s winter-wonderland play area.

Susan Sherer, executive director of the host committee, called the event an important way for the Super Bowl festivities to embrace wintertime.
