16-story downtown office tower gets new name, improvements
The
downtown office tower at 333 West Fort Street is seeing some
improvements to go along with a new name change. The 16-story office
building, now called Fort Washington Plaza, will have a new restaurant,
new elevators and new furniture in the lobby.
Â
Southfield’s
Gateway Deli will be moving into the ground floor retail space and will
be providing a different lunch menu and changes to the décor.Â
Outdoor sidewalk seating is also being planned for the deli, which
should be open sometime in October. Â
Construction will
also be underway soon on faster elevators with built-in information
monitors, similar to the Guardian Building’s elevators, showing cable
television news broadcasts. Â
The building, owned by
Sterling Group, houses notable non-profits such as the Community
Foundation for Southeastern Michigan and the Hudson-Webber Foundation.
The building was built in 1969 and includes an attached parking garage,
which is also scheduled for improvements. Â
