SBXL volunteers could help unite region, instill civic pride

Excerpts from Mary Kramer’s Crains Detroit column:

When 100,000 visitors roll into town around Feb. 2, I plan to be one of the red-jacketed “ambassadors” downtown, steering people to everything from great restaurants and music spots to the nearest bathroom or People Mover station. I can’t wait.

At my training session last week, one woman drove in from Saginaw and planned to live at her daughter’s house in Ypsilanti for four days so she could volunteer. If her enthusiasm is contagious, I hope it infects the entire region with a bug it sorely needs: civic pride. …

And if Super Bowl XL raises our own sense of pride and possibilities, let’s call it a big success.
