"We know the startup journey is challenging and that there are distinct hurdles along the way, especially for founders from underrepresented communities," says Joshua Sirefman, CEO of Michigan Central. "This program is a key step in removing some of those barriers to help innovation thrive."
“This funding will be used to prevent exposure to hazardous substances and address environmental conditions for a much-needed affordable housing and commercial space,” says David Bell, director of Detroit’s Buildings, Safety Engineering, and Environmental Department.
“As Detroit continues to cement itself as the premier technology hub, it’s critical to highlight and lift up our Black talent and entrepreneurs who have made Detroit into the destination it is,” says James Feagin, founder of Venture 313.
A runway show dedicated to Detroit fashion is making its way to Corktown on Friday. Nine designers with showcase high-end looks at the event, timed in coordination with Paris Fashion Week.
“This is an environment where we know that entrepreneurs will feel welcome. This is a safe space for folks,” says Regina Ann Campbell, President and CEO of Build Institute.
“The Southwest Greenway will make it really easy for residents of Mexicantown, Corktown and Southwest Detroit to get to the riverfront,” says Mark Wallace, president and CEO of the Detroit Riverfront Conservancy.
“JPMorgan Chase has played a major role in our city's comeback and has worked closely with Detroit at Work to make sure the Detroiters they are hiring are from ZIP codes we know to be among the most under-employed," Detroit Mayor Mike Duggan said.
