According to The Detroit News' editorial:
Roger Penske's return to a leadership position in Detroit is about more than trash. It's about commitment and cooperation
Penske, who was the driving force behind the success of the Super Bowl,
has agreed to take over as chairman of the Downtown Detroit
Partnership. His commitment to the city sends a clear signal to
business leaders that the urban core is essential for the region's
success. And it gives Detroit some much-needed credibility with
national leaders as well.
Cleaning up the main business district in Detroit will be Penske's first charge, and the impact will be immediate.
But his goals are bigger than that and the city will benefit greatly.
Add Detroit businessman Dave Bing to the mix to concentrate on rebuilding
neighborhoods as is expected, and Mayor Kwame Kilpatrick will have a
formidable rebuilding team. Both get things done and are dedicated to
Detroit.
