Ann Arbor companies are increasingly establishing a Detroit presence to take advantage of growing business opportunities.

Ann Arbor-based Beal Construction has been seeking city work for
years. It has an office in an historic office building downtown, and
after being a tenant there, purchased the eight-story structure in
early September through its property affiliate.
Beal has worked on more than 20 projects totaling more than $20
million in the last decade in the city, and hopes to start a $30
million renovation of the 34-story Broderick Tower in 2008.
Though the company maintains an Ann Arbor headquarters, its growth in Detroit is significant.
"We have established a real presence there," said Fred Beal, president of Beal Construction.
