Detroit RiverFront Conservancy Receives $32 Million for East and West Riverfront Development
Detroit’s Internation RiverFront will get a whole new look by 2007. “The East Riverfront in the final design stage, and the West Riverfront is the second phase of the Conservancy’s goal of a linked Riverfront from bridge to bridge — and beyond.” says the press release…
If all goes as planned, and the money is used to purchase additional land along the river for walkways, parks and other waterside attractions, as well as towards the creation of a RiverWalk that will span from the Belle Isle Bridge to the Ambassador Bridge, this just could be one of the most significant developments in Detroit’s history.
“The RiverWalk and surrounding green spaces will be designed to include outdoor dining, children’s playscapes, art fairs and fishing areas. Concessions and restrooms will be located throughout this pathway. Detroit’s history dating back to the early 1700s will be shared in a series of interpretive plazas, focusing on areas of Riverfront that were home to the ribbon farms of early settlers”, says the press release.
