The final countdown to the all-stars game

Hightlights from the report:

.  Instead of simply showcasing baseball’s best players in a friendly rivalry between the two leagues, the All-Star Game now is a public relations machine used to promote the game and bring revenue and exposure to the host city

.  In the past six years, host cities estimate the All-Star Game had a positive economic impact of more than $50 million. Detroit expects the windfall to match or exceed that figure this year.

.  But perhaps even more valuable to Detroit, is the impact hosting the All-Star Game and next year’s Super Bowl is having on revitalizing downtown.

.  Streets are receiving new surfaces, buildings are being torn down or remodeled, and the gloom and doom of downtown is slowly, but surely fading away.
