Residents begin moving into 55-unit Focus: HOPE-developed senior apartment complex

A 55-unit senior apartment building developed by Focus: HOPE in partnership with Presbyterian Village has begun receiving its first residents. The Village of Oakman Manor, located on Woodrow Wilson just south of Oakman Boulevard, cost $6.2 million and “is the first new construction in the area for 50 years,” according to Kathy Moran, communications manager for Focus: HOPE.

Amenities at Oakman Manor include on-site bi-weekly visits from medical personnel, hair salon, computer room, movie screening room, sitting room with gas fireplace, gathering room complete with pool table and a community room that can be used for meetings and parties. The backyard features a paved walking path and garden beds.

The complex will celebrate its grand opening on Feb. 14 but, in the
meantime, applications from potential residents are being procesed. Four of the 540 square foot, one-bedroom
apartments are already occupied. Rent on the units is based on income;
it costs 30% of adjusted gross annual income and is subsidized by US
Department of Housing and Urban Development.

The general contractor is the Damone Group and the architect is Fusco, Shaffer and Pappas.
