5 E Gallery to host fundraising event for move to new, expanded location

The 5 E Gallery, a nonprofit visual art and hip-hop gallery located in Corktown, will host a Saturday Nite Cipher benefit on Saturday, April 24. The event will launch a capital campaign to help fund a move to a new home, the former Zeitgeist Gallery at 2661 Michigan Ave., just five blocks west of its current location. Founder DJ Sicari says the new space is “bigger, better, it has a back patio and a stage.”

“It’s in the same neighborhood,” he says. “I’m excited.”

Zeitgeist was a home for theater, art and poetry from 1997 to 2008. Sicari hopes to relocate into the facility by mid-May.

Saturday Night Cipher will take place from 9:30 p.m. to 12:30 a.m. at the gallery’s current location at 2125 Michigan Ave. All donations and proceeds will benefit 5 E Gallery’s new location. Performances will include saxophonist and emcee Saxappeal, B. Williams, a direct protégé of Grammy and Billboard super producer Michael J. Powell, and singer Gwenation.
