at the Detroit Yacht Club on Belle Isle.
Get a sneak peek of the new DIA before its grand opening later this fall.
The event is free, but s
eating is limited. Please RSVP here.Detroit Institute of Arts director Graham W.J. Beal will reveal how the DIA will present its world-class collection in a completely new light. Beal will provide an overview of the $158 million, six-year building
renovation and expansion of the museum.
The museum director will also discuss
how the entire museum is being recreated to build a better connection
between visitors and the art. This is all part of the DIA’s new
visitor-centered approach intended to enhance the overall museum
experience.
More than 5,000 objects have been reinstalled in
new and refurnished galleries in a way that will transform the public’s
experience with the art. Instead of grouping objects strictly by time
period or style, art is arranged according to the stories the objects
have to tell. Galleries now have themes that visitors can personally
relate to, such as dining, travel, and the cycles of life.
The
newly reinstalled galleries integrate technology to
enhance the visitor’s interaction with a collection that ranks among
the finest in the nation.
