Kim's Produce will open this Friday, Jan. 29, at 4206 Woodward Ave. Proprietors Kim and Hollis Smith plan to purchase fresh produce every other day from Eastern Market, which means that all stock will be regularly rotated.
The Smiths operated a produce stand in Ann Arbor over the summer, but decided to open up a store in Detroit because of what they perceive as a lack of fresh produce options. "We want (residents) to be able to stop somewhere and get really the freshest stuff," says Kim. The couple chose Midtown to set up shop because "we really like the neighborhood."
The 1,200-square-foot space has 800-square-feet of floor space along with an office. It is located between Bangkok Cuisine and Passport Pizza just north of Willis. Call 313-831-1960. Hours are Monday through Friday 10 a.m. to 7 p.m., Saturday 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. and Sunday 11 a.m. to 6 p.m.
