University of Detroit Mercy’s decision to move its dental school to
Detroit’s Core City neighborhood will boost an area that’s already
growing.

Excerpt:

The university announced earlier this month that it would spend $25.5
million to move the dental school from its Outer Drive location in
Detroit to the former Kindred Hospital-Metro Detroit site, a
261,000-square-foot building at 2600 Martin Luther King Jr. Blvd.

UDM could have a “Wal-Mart effect” on the area, which doesn’t have many
retail stores or restaurants, said Brian Watkins, manager of the
financial incentive unit at Detroit’s planning and development
department.
