City reopens west side’s Tenth Precinct

Earlier this month, the City of Detroit made some west-siders ecstatic when the Police Department reopened the Tenth Precinct, which is located on Livernois between Grand River and the Davison. “There’s something about having a precinct in the neighborhood, down the block,” says James Tait of DPD’s office of public information.

Now that the Tenth is back in business, the Western District, which was formed by combining the Tenth and the Tweflth Prencints, has reverted back to familiar precinct terms. The Twelfth is located on Seven Mile Road near the Palmer Woods neighborhood.

Tait says the department is exploring the same option in other districts, but fiscal and manpower constraints must be considered. Currently, there are five districts and two precincts citywide.
