Speaker Series 9/15: What are the Business Opportunities in the City?
It’s hard to say what people anticipate more as summer comes to a close — the return of college football or Open City. The choice is obvs, people. So to kick off the season right, we’re collaborating on a Model D Speaker Series/Open City night Sept. 15. Sorry, no cornhole.
Model D’s Speaker Series will help kick off of Open City’s 2009/2010 season.
The free event will be from 6-8:30 p.m. Tuesday, Sept. 15 at Cliff Bell’s, 2030 Park Ave. in Detroit.
The event is free but you must register in advance as seating is limited. Sign up here.
The topic will be about entrepreneurial opportunities in the city of Detroit.
Speakers will include:
– Randal Charlton, executive director of TechTown
– Olga Stella, vice president of business development for the Detroit Economic Growth Corp.
– Mary King, executive director of Detroit Investment Fund

Detroit had approximately 18 Black-owned or Black-operated hospitals during the 1940s and ’1950s. Their decline followed structural and policy shifts. Hospital desegregation after World War II opened previously white-only hospitals to Black physicians and patients.
