Penske ready to keep pushing forward

Having guided Detroit to its successful hosting of Super Bowl XL, business leader and racing legend Roger Penske promised Wednesday to stick around to help keep the city’s redevelopment effort going.

Excerpts from the article:

“Now, 72 hours since the game concluded, my hope is that we will continue this momentum together,” Penske told the Detroit Economic Club. “I’m here to tell you today that I’m ready to join the effort, right here and right now.”

Penske, chairman of the Detroit Super Bowl XL Host Committee for the past six years, called for greater involvement by the business community and property owners in targeting problems in Detroit. He cited homelessness and mass transit as issues that need attention.

“We need to create a sense of urgency, a deadline,” he said. “The Super Bowl was a critical deadline for this city, and we moved forward, and we need to create new goalposts to get things done.”
