Developer Dennis Kefallinos of the
Boydell Group has purchased a former Wayne State University school of
pharmacy building that is just east of I-375. The building had been sitting vacant for five years.

Kefallinos, who has developed other aging Detroit buildings for
residential use, plans to make a firm decision on the fate of the
160,000 square-foot building at 1401 Rivard St. in the next 90 days.
He
is considering a mixed-use development with residential on the upper
floors and retail and commercial on the ground floor. A high-end steak
house could fill the retail space, said Kefallinos, who owns Niki's Pizza, Coach's Corner and Loco Bar & Grill, all in Detroit.
