The Globe Building and Eastern Market were among four sites in Detroit
awarded $800,000 in brownfield assessment funds from the EPA.

Word of the grant was welcomed by City Councilwoman
Sheila Cockrel.

“That’s good news,” Cockrel said Monday. “That’s
really significant especially with all the development that’s going on
in the Eastern Market area.”

Cockrel
said the EPA grants will help the city better deal “with the kind of
industrial problem caused by generations of industrial pollution left
behind.
