According to the story:

Second Baptist, Michigan’s oldest African-American church, turns 170 on March 23.

“Second Baptist played such an important role in developing the black
community in Detroit that people all over the area feel that they share
in its history,” Ted Talbert, a Detroit documentary filmmaker, said
this week.
Talbert made a film, “Building Bridges Over Troubled Waters,” about the city’s African-American Baptist churches.
