Architecture firm Kraemer Design Group adds seven in downtown

Kraemer Design Group is celebrating its 15th anniversary with a new website, brand and a larger staff.

The downtown-based architecture firm has bucked the national trend of shrinking architectural practices (due to the recent housing and finance market implosions) and has hired seven people over the last year.

"We've been hiring and we continue to hire," says Bob Kraemer, principal of Kraemer Design Group. "We have had some start for us this week and we'll have some start for us next week as well." He adds that the company expects to hire another 2-3 people by June. Kraemer expects his company to hire 10 more employees within the next 18 months, expanding his staff to 30 people.

Kraemer Design Group, based in downtown, has expanded its scope of work for its staff of 18 people. Some of those new services include graphic design and tax incentives. The company did its belt tightening like everyone else when the recession hit but it stayed afloat and started to grow again thanks to work from outside of Michigan, such as hotel projects.

"It's a combination of Michigan customers with out-of-state facilities and out-of-state clients," Kraemer says.
