Get Fresh Detroit relaunches this spring with fresh food, distribution

Get Fresh Detroit is launching a revamped fresh food lineup in the city with a plan for a branded distribution system this month.

The Hubbard Farms-based start-up got going last year providing fresh vegetables at local bodegas throughout the inner city. The idea took off, allowing the Get Fresh Detroit's founders, a group of University of Michigan students, to raise $30,000 in seed capital this winter to revamp its product lineup and business plan for a better, healthier distribution this year.

Get Fresh Detroit is now swerving fresh, prepared food from Lunch Time Detroit. The start-up is working to involve fresh vegetables and other prepared foods into its lineup later this year, along with incorporating its own branded distribution coolers. Get Fresh Detroit is testing this new system in two party stores in the Tireman neighborhood and plans to expand to four more in May.

"I'd love to see our fresh food in stores across the city," says Noam Kimelman, CEO of Get Fresh Detroit. "I'd love to be in at least 100 stores across the city."

About 20 people are working with Get Fresh Detroit to get its products in stores across the city. The group is currently looking for volunteers to help spread its distribution system, across the city and possibly even some suburbs in the future. For information, contact Kimelman here.
