Thirty established Detroit businesses win $10K each for their ideas for growth (VIDEO)
Last month, the New Economy Initiative did something unusual for a philanthropy: it granted money directly to small businesses in Detroit, Hamtramck, and Highland Park for their ideas for growth. In this video you'll hear their stories.
On Oct. 23, the New Economy Initiative for Southeast Michigan (NEI) did something unusual for a philanthropic organization: it recongized the contributions small businesses make to Detroit neighborhoods by granting them money directly for their ideas for growth.
NEIdeas: Rewarding Ideas for Business Growth launched in May by asking existing businesses (those that are at least three years old, i.e. non-startups) in Detroit, Hamtramck, and Highland Park a simple question: “What’s your best idea for growth?” Nearly 600 loval businesses applied, of which thirty were selected by a jury to receive $10,000 each.
