Tourism chief talks about getting people to pay attention to Detroit

Crain's has a conversation with Larry Alexander, the president and CEO of the Detroit Metropolitan Convention and Visitors Bureau. The conversation touches on casinos, hotels, conventions, the city's national image and upcoming major events.

Our national advertising has been some really creative stuff. One piece says, "Who is the genius that picked Detroit?" then answers with the upcoming Mensa International conference. Another says "finally, Detroit gets some good PR," then shows the (Public Relations Society of America), which is coming next year. We're having a little fun, but it also breaks through the clutter out there to get people to pay attention to Detroit.
