Auto show driving plans to expand Cobo

"Overall, the auto show is a very, very positive thing for Michigan.
It's a signature event that we already own," said Lansing economist
Pat Anderson. "There's no question that it's worth keeping and worth
doing something to improve."

Indeed, portfolio manager David Sowerby of Loomis Sayles & Co. in
Bloomfield Hills, pegged the economic benefit of the 2006 show at $580
million.

"I also look at how it looks compared to the '80s and '90s, and it's
measurably better," Sowerby said. "But our competitors have not sat
still, whether it's Chicago or Los Angeles."
