Wayne County development director Mulu Birru’s “Airport City” vision, he tells the
Michigan Land Use Institute, is to build neighborhoods that would bring talented people and innovative businesses to the region and to add mass transit.
He’s received help desiging Airport City from Douglas Kelbaugh, dean of
the University of Michigan’s Taubman School of Architecture and Urban
Planning, and his students.
The concept could help put Detroit back among America’s greatest cities and bring global markets within reach.
