New bus tour commemorates history of African-American contributions in Detroit

Want to learn more about Detroit’s history? A new bus tour highlighting important African-American sites is a great place to start.
Organized by the Black Historic Sites Committee, an affinity group of the Detroit Historical Society, “The Black Historic Sites Bus Tour” will visit Detroit locations with Michigan Historical Markers that commemorate African-American contributions to the city. Some stops on the tour include the home of Ossian Sweet, the William V. Banks Broadcast Museum, the Gateway to Freedom Monument at Hart Plaza, and the Motown Museum.
“The Black Historic Sites Bus Tour” takes place on Saturday, June 16 from 10:30 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. It costs $30 for Detroit Historical Society members and $35 for non-members. Lunch is included.
