Grosse Pointe’s “high-class dive,” the Hard Luck Lounge, is branching out by opening up a location in Downtown Detroit, on Woodward at the former location of Proof. The bar will be open seven days a week at 4 p.m. and there will be a kitchen. “My priority goal is for this to be a great solid business 365 days a year, and events like football and baseball games and concerts, we’ll treat those as a bonus,” says Lou Columbo, a partner in the venture along with Mike Moyianis. “We want to ingratiate ourselves to our neighborhood.”

“We have a great opportunity with that square block, it’s like a built-in little neighborhood,” says Columbo, citing the Kales Building, Fyfe Apartments, Cliff Bell’s (which he calls “probably the coolest bar in Detroit”), the Park Bar and Bucharest Grill. Hard Luck also is debuting its own private label vodka, and he says that the bar’s Woodward frontage will “help launch that brand.”

Hard Luck Lounge will be open for Tigers Opening Day, Friday, April 9, and will hold an official Grand Opening in a couple of weeks. The bar’s address is 10 W. Adams at Woodward. Call 313-974-7470.
