W. Vernor lands a new clothing boutique, Labels Too

The Vernor/Springwells area of Southwest Detroit might be best known for its tasty tacquerias, but its identity as a fashionable retail shopping district is growing too.

This summer, Labels Too, a clothing boutique targeting juniors, opened at 8020 W. Vernor, just a block away from Al Wissam and Delia’s. “The store is a perfect addition to the city’s most vibrant retail district,” says Vittoria Katanski, director of marketing for Southwest Detroit Business Association. “Its clothing is edgy and unique, just like the surrounding community.”

Why did owner Tracy Thomas decide to open a second location of her store, Labels, which is located at Northland Mall, in Southwest Detroit? “I grew up in the area,” she says. “I know it’s a good shopping district.” SDBA’s façade improvement program facilitated the building owner’s renovation of the space, which in turn made it more attractive to Labels Too as a tenant.

Labels Too specializes in club wear and casual clothing. Thomas doesn’t focus on any particular designer labels, aiming to be an affordable boutique.

Labels Too is open 11 a.m. to 7 a.m. six days a week, closed Sunday. Call 313-842-0176.
