Motor City start-up Ubi Video aims to consolidate web video into one channel

Earlier this week, James Norman launched a new website he believes will make it easier for web surfers to find and watch their favorite TV shows and viral content, Ubi Video.

Norman, a recent University of Michigan graduate, and his team have been working for the last two years to bring 40,000 TV shows, films and other online content onboard. The idea is to bring the scattered-yet-growing multitude of online content sites into one space for easy access and discovery.

“It was too hard to find your shows when you wanted to,” says Norman, CEO of Ubi Video. “I wanted one place where I could watch all my shows online.”

Ubi Video is based in the Riverfront area near Belle Isle and is staffed by two full-time, six part-time and two interns. The start-up is now launching its website in Michigan with plans to roll out the rest of the country within the next year. It now has 300 Beta users but plans to rapidly expand those numbers in its first year.

“By that time we want to be in the 1-1.5 million user range,” Norman says.
