Treats by Angelique aims to open in greater downtown area this year

Angelique Robinson has a career as a child psychologist, but she is building another one around another passion: baking.

She plans to open Treats by Angelique in the greater downtown area this year, taking a storefront space to sell her cookies, cakes and cheesecake.

“It’s something I absolutely enjoy doing,” Robinson says. “A few years ago I wanted to go to medical school and pursue a higher degree or start me own business. This is how I see the rest of my life filling out.”

Robinson has been baking for family and friends for 20 years. She has been selling her wares without a permanent storefront in recent years, using the kitchen at Second Grace Church to make her wares. She wants to find a storefront space, preferably in Midtown, so she can establish Treats by Angelique’s brand and create another destination spot in the neighborhood.

“I just like the vibe here,” Robinson says. “There are so many new businesses and people talk to each other. I want my shop to be a destination shop.”
