Detroit offers visitors warm SBXL welcome

A San Antonio Star-Telegram writer says Detroit’s people made him welcome.

Excerpts from his article:

It’s as local columnist Mitch Albom wrote in his welcoming piece aimed at visiting media and fans earlier this week.

It’s about the people, stupid.

It’s about Don, the volunteer — one of 8,000 — who met me in the airport Wednesday and insisted on carrying one of my bags to the media shuttle that would bring me to my hotel.

It’s about Eddie, the shuttle bus driver, who ferried Don (he insisted on ushering me all the way to the hotel) and me — his only passengers — in a vehicle that could have easily carried 24. I couldn’t have asked for nicer company. …

Even the weather is cooperating, as Michael Irvin told reporters Tuesday.

“Detroit’s been fine,” he said. “The thing is, most guys are worried about a snowstorm, and we haven’t had that. It’s been like 60 degrees.

“I’ve got all sorts of mink and cashmere in the hotel that I can’t wear.”

In the meantime, I think I’ll take a stroll around the Ren Cen for old time’s sake.
