Local lads and lassies ready St. Patrick’s Day parade, 5K run

Getting your Trinity Audio player ready...

Here is something we didn’t know: in 1959, the United Irish Societies sponsored the first St. Patrick’s Parade in Dearborn. Today, the parade route is follows red-bricked Michigan Avenue through Corktown, Detroit’s oldest neighborhood.

So shake off the winter blues (it’s supposed to be in the mid-40s on Sunday) and join over 30,000 people who come every year to celebrate a day when everyone is Irish. Parade starts at noon.

Check out the parade web site for details here.

There is also 5k race that begins and ends at the Michigan Central Station held before the parade. That starts at noon. More on that here.
