Word of mouth, both virtually and in reality, is driving the growth of Wedit.
Wedit provides HD Flip cameras to bridal parties so participants can capture, edit and share wedding video. Guests are provided cameras and are able to film every moment from their point-of-view in order to create a custom video for the newlyweds. They then mail them back to Wedit, which edits the footage for a few hundred dollars.
The downtown Detroit-based start-up is leveraging both its social media efforts and old-fashioned customer recommendations to grow its business by 400 percent in its second year. That has allowed the 2-year-old company to hire a director or marketing and it plans to bring on one of the first
Venture for America fellows this summer to meet its rising demand..
"We really rely on a lot of word of mouth," says Brett deMarrias, founder of
Wedit. "Every time we have a really happy bride they have three friends that are getting married."
Wedit was recently named by The Knot as the Best of Weddings for 2012 and also Wedding Wire Bride’s Choice award for this year. Last year it handled 1,200 weddings and expects to grow that number exponentially again this year. The idea came from deMarrias after he graduated a
Bizdom course a few years ago. The company now calls the M@dison Building home.
