The five people who co-founded The Work three years ago have been working in the creative end of the advertising world for years. Each had the specialty, such as videography, photography, editing, production, etc. After working together casually on projects one question started to float to the surface.
"Why don't we try and see if we can work together and see if it will work out," says Christopher Gruse, co-founder of
The Work.
So far it has worked out. The creative agency has been taking on more and more work in recent years from its office in the
Elevator Building along Detroit's riverfront. Part of its work now includes a Chevrolet commercial running during NFL games. It's to the point the company can turn down project pitches it's not excited about.
"Now we're on jobs with 80 people on the set," Gruse says. "We have been doing much bigger jobs."
Which means the company has had to add to its team to keep up. The Work has hired three people over the last year and more positions look likely.
"The past two years it has grown quicker than we could have ever imagined," Gruse says.
