By day, Eric Valdez is an arts director for Team Detroit, the marketing agency for Ford. On nights and weekends, he is CEO and designer of his own clothing line,
Spanish Fly Detroit.
"Corporate America after a while gets a little mundane," Valdez says. "You start to look for other things to keep your mind sharp and to stay from being bored."
Valdez describes
Spanish Fly Detroit as street wear inspired by vintage Americana. Think of the styles associated 1950s-era pinups. "It's a lot of American nostalgia mixed with modern pop culture," Valdez says.
The Southwest Detroit-based company is run and operated by Valdez. Its wares are available online only but Valdez is working to have his clothing available in a dozen retail outlets in Detroit by this summer.
"Detroit taught me everything," Valdez says.
