Quicken Loans is going organic while trying to fill its IT needs with a new program called IT in the D. The downtown Detroit-based mortgage/technology firm launched the new program last month so it can serve as a launchpad for people who want to pursue careers in IT.
"We need more people to participate so they can have a career with us," says Linglong He, CIO of
Quicken Loans. "There are hundreds of IT jobs that need to be filled and more are being created everyday."
There has been a spike in demand for IT and software professionals in downtown Detroit in recent years as the city's Central Business District has become a hub for on-shoring IT services and tech start-ups. Companies like Strategic Staffing Solutions, GalaxE. Solutions, Compuware have been hiring hundreds of people to fill a growing number of IT positions in the last year or two.
Quicken Loans started off this year with more than 300 IT openings. It has held two career fairs to fill those positions and is still working to find the bodies to put in front of those computer screens.
"Even now we still have 150 openings," He says. "The business is growing so fast that we need more (IT professionals) now."
