EEV resident becomes own boss with Prestige Meetings & Events

Latisha Johnson was one of the lucky ones at her old job. The former sales manager and event coordinator wasn't laid off, but it also meant she had a lot of extra work to do. All of that extra effort with little to no extra reward prompted the East English Village resident to strike out on her own with Prestige Meetings & Events.

"For me it was an imbalance in my live/work balance," says Johnson, founder of Prestige Marketing & Events. "I had just gotten engaged so I needed more time."

That was January when the East English Village-based business was just starting. Today it employs two people and three independent contractors. They manage meeting and event planning for larger corporations who have downsized their in-house event planning staffs and need a third party to handle that work.

Johnson expects to add a few more clients over the next year and hire between 1-2 more meeting planners.
