The Quicken Loans family of businesses, AKA Dan Gilbert's entrepreneurial empire, is bringing another one of its prodigal companies home to downtown Detroit, MyInsuranceExpert.
MyInsuranceExpert helps consumers find the right life insurance policy. The Troy-based firm, for now, will move its 100 employees to a yet-to-be-named building owned by Gilbert early next year with plans to grow even bigger.
"We're in the middle of hiring another 100 people," says
Lorne Zalesin, CEO of
MyInsuranceExpert. "We'll be doing that over the next three months."
Gilbert is chairman of
Quicken Loans and has a controlling interest in a number of smaller firms in downtown Detroit, such as
FatHead and aggressive venture capital firm
Detroit Venture Partners. He recently moved Quicken Loans headquarters to the Compuware Building purchased a number of downtown skyscrapers to
create a entrepreneurial cluster for tech companies in the lower Woodward corridor being branded as
Webward.
Gilbert has been working to move a number of his companies and
others in Metro Detroit, such as downtown Royal Oak-based
Skidmore Studio, to downtown to create a dynamic entrepreneurial environment. MyInsuranceExpert is the latest addition.
"It's necessary to be in tight quarters with everybody," Zalesin says. "We can pick up synergies with other people that will help us grow even faster."
