Hertz Schram law firm opens downtown office in Chrysler House

Hertz Schram PC, the Bloomfield Hills-based law firm, is opening a downtown Detroit office this week with an eye on taking advantage of the intellectual property legal market and other entrepreneurial activity that comes with the growing cluster of tech startups downtown.

"We want to expand that clientele," says Kristin Lusn, an attorney with Hertz Schram who will head up its new office in Detroit's Central Business District. "I am downtown all the time and we want to be downtown."

Lusn had her own legal practice in downtown Royal Oak before recently joining Hertz Schram to open its downtown Detroit office. The new office will open with a temporary space in the Chrysler House. Lusn plans to find a larger, permanent office space downtown within the next few weeks. She says the office will house six employees by the end of summer.

Hertz Schram's new downtown Detroit office will primarily service tech startups that are grappling with intellectual property issues and other entrepreneurial legal work. It will also offer legal services to other businesses and individuals in the area. The rise of tech spaces like the M@dison Building downtown made the Central Business District an easy choice for the law firm.

"We want to be in a walkable section that has the most concentration of employees," Lusn says.
