Giffels-Webster, a staple of civil engineering and surveying firms in Metro Detroit since the 1950s, is moving its headquarters to downtown Detroit, a move that will bring another 20-25 works to the city's Central Business District.
The move will triple the employee count of the 61-year-old firm's current office in downtown Detroit. The newly expanded space will house the company's executive offices and accounting department, as well as teams of civil engineers and surveyors. It will be the firm's largest office. The company, which employs 55 people overall, hired three people over the last year and expects to keep growing.
"We have worked very hard in the last 12-18 months," says Scott Clein, executive vice president and head of the Detroit office for
Giffels-Webster.
Clein adds that the move reinforces the "company's commitment to urban centers." It also moved its Oakland County office to new space in downtown Birmingham. To Giffels-Webster, the move provides more space at a better price but also makes it more attractive to both clients and potential employees.
"There is just that intrinsic sense of place," Clein says. "It's not something you can put your finger on, but it's something cities have."
