Cardinal Health plans to build a new distribution center in Detroit's New Center neighborhood, an investment that is expected to lead to 140 new jobs in the city.
The health-care services company recently reached an long-term distribution agreement with the
Detroit Medical Center and
Henry Ford Health System. As part of the agreement,
Cardinal Health plans to relocate its medical products facility from Romulus to a new building that will be built just south of Henry Ford Hospital.
"We needed to make sure that our customers in this market know we are making a long-term commitment to Detroit and our customers," says Steve Inacker, president of channel management medical segment for Cardinal Health.
Cardinal Health plans to build a 273,520-square-foot distribution center. Construction is expected to begin by the end of this year and wrap up within one year. Making this investment possible is a deal that provides economic development incentives from the city, state and federal agencies.
"We have had a very strong presence in Michigan for a very long time," Inacker says.
