Model D TV: Detroit City Futbol League takes neighborhood pride to the soccer field
Which neighborhood will reign supreme in the inaugural Detroit City Futbol league championship, the Copa Detroit? We find out this Saturday, July 31, on Belle Isle. Find out more about the league in this week’s Model D TV video. Vuvuzelas optional.
The first ever season of the Detroit City Futbol League started back in May. Eleven soccer teams from
neighborhoods around the city — and Hamtramck — took to Belle Isle for the inaugural
season. Each week, the league brought out nearly 300
participants, mostly from the city, but a smattering of suburbanites participated as
well. Vuvuzelas were optional.
Model D writer and sometimes audio/visual mastermind Terry Parris Jr. brings us this report from the season.
