One more new tenant at WSU dorms: Salon X open and cutting

Wayne State University students were asked what businesses they would like to see on-campus and they answered, “full-service salon.” In this case, the old maxim “ask and ye shall receive” really worked.

Salon X opened in the Towers Residential Suites on May 18. Even though school is not currently in full-swing, manager Toni Young says the reception has been great from WSU staff and neighborhood residents. “Now there is no reason to drive to Dearborn anymore. There are 47,000 people living in Midtown,” she says. “I think we’ll do all right.”

Salon X is approximately 3,000 square feet and includes 9 salon chairs and 5 private rooms including two tanning beds, a room for facials and a braiding room. Manicures and pedicures will also be available.

Currently, due to the time of year, Salon X is only offering blow-drying, color and barber services. Young plans to be fully staffed and launched on August 1, with a grand opening celebration scheduled for August 10. She is currently hiring licensed beauticians, barbers and nail techs that will be able to serve a diverse population.

Current hours are Monday through Friday 10 a.m. until 4 p.m., and Saturday from 10 a.m. until 4 p.m. Beginning August 1, hours will be Monday through Friday 10 a.m. until 8 p.m., and Saturday from 10 a.m. until 6 p.m. Call 313-833-5000 for appointments.
