$12 million in upgrades planned for Pontchartrain hotel

A $12 million renovation and a new affiliation with the Sheraton hotel chain will change the look and name of the storied Hotel Pontchartrain.

A $12 million renovation and a new affiliation with the Sheraton hotel
chain will change the look and name of the storied Hotel Pontchartrain.

The owners of the downtown Detroit landmark have embarked on a major
overhaul of the 25-story hotel that will add 54 suites and make over
its 364 guest rooms, ballroom, 13 meeting rooms, lobby and restaurant,
while adding a health and fitness complex and indoor pool. All
mechanical, plumbing and electrical systems also will be refurbished.

The renovations are expected to be completed by the end of the year.
